Which is better Oceanfront or Lakefront Living?Let's tak a look at some Advantages and Disadvantages of Living on the Ocean and Living on a Lake!
1. Dreams. When many people dream of living on the water, they dream of palm trees, endless water views, sunsets, and rolling surf. Typically you can hop on the beach front and stroll for miles. Only oceanfront property can provide this. 2. Weather. Most oceanfront property will have moderate weather either because it is in the south and/or is protected somewhat by ocean breezes and currents. Living by a lake can actually bring more adverse weather such as snow or rain. A major issue to consider with coastal living in many areas is storms and hurricanes. 4. Cost. Oceanfront property typically is more expensive than most lakefront property. There are some options for affordable oceanfront real estate but you get what you pay for! Property insurance and taxes on oceanfront real estate is also much higher. Real estate for building or buying a lake house is usually less expensive. 5. Isolation. This factor varies from place to place but many oceanfront communities are primarily focused on tourists. Often-times the property owners are rarely using their property and when they do it's going to be quite loud. Lake home living tends to be more secluded or laid back. 6. Traffic and Noise. For the most part Oceanfront living tends to be nosier, whether it's music, activities, or people having a good time. If you like this atmosphere, then Oceanfront is for you. If you enjoy a more peaceful atmosphere I'd recommend lakefront living. 7. Recreation. If you like to boat, fish, or engage in other water sports, I think it is much easier and more affordable to do these things on a lake. Activities and equipment will be more expensive for oceanfront living. If you live on a lake everything will be more readily accessible and activities and equipment will cost less. 8. Maintenance. Salt water and salt air creates tremendous maintenance problems for your oceanfront house and equipment over time. I'd say you'll get more for your money with lakefront living and would give the advantage to lake living! Feb 13, 2009
